Africa Samachar

Africa Samachar, Gujarati baily Publishing  from Nairobi The Brahmin family behind 'Africa Shmachar' has their ancestral roots in Kathiawar of Gujarat.

Started from scratch, worked as cook and newspaper vendor before being owner; later published editions about industries of Africa

At the very outset, on a happy note we would like to mention the international kite flying festival celebrated few months ago in Gujarat. People of Gujarat are brave hearts from their birth. No wonder if people head towards foreign countries today as this is the age of advancement and technology. But think of someone in the nineteen fifties, illiterate and had almost no forefathers to fall back for finance and help. This is the story of a Brahmin family who fought against all odds to fortify and showcase that human race and cultures may have different origins but at the end of the day the will power to succeed strings us all together into one mass of humanity which lives and lasts through the test of time.

Being 'Baj khedaval Brahmins' their cultural Inheritance was from Saurastra's Amreli Distict. They Hail from the village Moti Kukavav. Three sons of Ambaram Anandaji Bhatt- the eldest being Nandalal, middle being Shantilal and yongest Trikamlal. With Complete approbation of their father the went to Africa to fend for themselves. Trikamlal better known as T.A. Bhatt worked as a news paper vendor during his school days back home in Jetpur. This ignited keen interest in Newspaper. Hence, he ultimately started his own in 1953 under the banner of 'The united africa press limited' T. A. Bhatt was its chairman and managing director. He was also the editor of "Africa Samachar" with 16 pages of full fledge news paper in gujarati language and got printed in latest rotary machines.

Same Gujarati family got a letter of special permission to import such machine to Gujarat from nairobi on 23rd September 1964. The permission was given by then chief minister of Gujarat late shree Balvantrai mehta. By donating in national defense fund once 5001 shilling for late prime minister Shree Jawaharlal Nehru and later five tolas of gold for late Prime minister Ms Indira Gandhi they tried to repay their moral debt towards their motherland. Apart from that Daily always took pride in being the forefront representative and coveted host to many known-unknown personalities when they visit africa. When known holy saints yogi swami and Pramukh swami went to Nairobi our editor Shree C.A. Bhatt was present at airport to give them a hearty welcome.

At Present there is no one in Nairobi from bhatt family as most are settled in London or other countries. No one from three base pillars of Bhatt family, Nandalal Bhatt, Shantilal Bhatt or T.A. Bhatt are alive today. But others who went back to India have started business of printing press in Gujarat. The inception of first ever hindi newspaper of Gujarat ' Alpaviram' and Gujarati Newspaper 'Lokmitra' came in 1984.
Late shree Chandubhai, The eldest son of late Shree Shantilal was a meritorious and able businessman with extra ordinary vision and powers. He traveled the world and published annual books about "Industries in east africa" and "Kenya review". Also he got enormous reputation in printing industry in Lusaka (zambia).

Nanalal bhai bhatt, The second son of Late shree Shantilal is now settled in Ahmedabad after successfully handling printing Press in city of Lusaka in Zambia for many years.
