Over 1 lakh cases settled in mega Lok Adalat in Gujarat

By ENN, Ahmedabad: More than one lakh cases were settled in 630 mega Lok Adalats, organised in different districts of Gujarat on a single day.

The mega Lok Adalats on December 20 were arranged at the instance of newly appointed Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court S J Mukhopadhyay, who is also patron-in-chief of the State Legal Services Authority.

Authority Member-Secretary Sudhir S Shah said as many as 1,05,913 cases, including 13,742 pre-litigation cases, were settled and compensation of Rs 11.78 crore were awarded in motor accident cases.

Besides, legal literacy camps on National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Domestic Violence Act, laws relating to labours, maintenance and welfare of parents, senior citizens act and marriage act were also held.

According to Mr Shah, highest -- 41,638 cases were settled in metropolitan magistrate courts in Ahmedabad, while district legal services authority of Vadodara had settled 13,962 cases through Lok Adalats.

The Labour and Industrial Court Legal Services Committee had also settled 1,100 cases amicable solutions.

The Mega Lok Adalat was a grand success with the active participation of judges, advocates and litigants, Mr Shah added.
