Skywalk project abandoned amid protests
By ENN, Rajkot, : The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided not to go ahead with the ambitious skywalk project in the city in the wake of protests from various factions.
Architects, engineers and traders raised their voice against the project, which is under construction at Kotecha chowk, Rajkot Mayor Sandhya Vyas told.
Ms Vyas said the project was to facilitate the people. But after protests, the ruling BJP has decided to put off the project. The opposition Congress too has joined with the protesters.
Congress corporator and opposition leader in the RMC, Narendrasinh Jadeja told UNI that ''It was best example of the inefficiancy of the ruling BJP in tackling the issue and project.
The Standing Committee of RMC had approved the Rs 3 crore project recently. The project was given to Ahmedabad-based Ken Infrastructure, which was to constructed on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) project.
